Developing leadership skills in primary school lays a strong foundation for future opportunities, both within and beyond the classroom. At St Patrick’s, we believe that empowering students to lead builds confidence, responsibility, and a sense of community. Through meaningful leadership roles, students learn to collaborate, make decisions, and positively influence their peers—skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.
Students at St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School are provided with many opportunities to develop their leadership skills.
School Captains & Sports Captains
Each year, our Year 5 students have the opportunity to apply for one of our key student leadership roles for the following year: School Captain or Sports Captain.
These positions recognise students who demonstrate responsibility, initiative, and a commitment to positively contributing to our school community.
Successful applicants represent the school at events, support assemblies, lead by example, and help promote school spirit and teamwork. This program empowers our senior students to grow as confident leaders while serving as positive role models for their peers.
Student Representative Council
Our Student Representative Council (SRC) is made up of enthusiastic and responsible students elected from Years 3–6. The SRC meets regularly to discuss school initiatives, share student ideas, and help shape a positive and engaging school environment.
Students who wish to be part of the SRC can apply through their classroom teacher at the beginning of Term 1 and Term 3. This program gives students a meaningful voice in our school community while building their confidence, leadership and teamwork skills.
Kindergarten Buddy Program
Our Buddy Program supports meaningful connections between our senior and Kindergarten students, helping to build a friendly, caring, and inclusive school community. Through regular interactions, older students provide guidance and support, helping younger students feel safe, welcomed, and confident as they begin their Primary School journey.
The Kindergarten Buddy Program is available to students in Year 6 at St Patrick’s, with next year’s Year 6 students being partnered with an incoming Kindergarten student and participating in a range of activities, including the Kindergarten Orientation program, throughout the year.
